POETRY ANALYSIS: Children The poem "Children", written by Nancy Keesing is a war poem that emphasizes the contrast of the peaceful lifestyle that Australian children enjoy as opposed to the lifestyle of foreign children who have been literally torn apart by war. By using several poetic techniques such as powerful language, effective sound devices imagery and structure, I am able to better understand the amount of pain and suffering the innocent children experienced and am left with a feeling of sympathy towards them. The poem consists of two sections, both written in the first person point of view. By structuring the poem into these sections we are able to compare them. In the first section, the narrator speaks of her fear for her surfing children and focuses on the risk of them being injured, using words like "tossed", "disjointed" and "broken".
