Paul Hayden John Bowlby (1907-1990) was a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who produced work prolifically from 1938 to 1989. In this essay I shall be focusing on his work regarding attachment theory and maternal deprivation (1958) and also later papers on the same subject (Vol. 1 of Attachment and loss 1969).
