It helps to ensure that information and knowledge is as acurate and useful as possible. It enables society to develop new idea's based on enquiry. "Research is used to compare, to explore a theory or to identify change" (Green.S ( 2002)) In all research, the quality of the information receieved is directly linked to the asked question.
