Evaluate the contribution of behavioural neuroscience to our understanding of the physiological basis of emotion. Research conducted in behavioural neuroscience has been invaluable to our understanding of the physiological basis of emotion. It is an area of study of that focuses on understanding the structure and function of the central and peripheral autonomic nervous systems and seeks to answer questions related to the brain and different types of behavioural development. Emotion on the other hand is difficult to define although it can be said to refer to positive or negative feelings that are produced by particular situations. Despite the many different theories outlining the physiological basis of emotion, in this essay I have chosen to explain how behavioural studies revolving around classical conditioning, contribute heavily to our understanding of the external displays of emotions such as pain and fear.
