In the United Kingdom today, there are approximately 16% of school-aged children who are entitled to free school meals, although only around half of them actually claim the meals. Children who have their meals provided by the government are given an allowance of around £1.50 a day to spend on their lunches, although many schools provide lower than this national average and as a result, the children do not eat properly.
