Consider to the extent to which psychological research supports Bowlby's Maternal Deprivation Hypothesis. Bowlby's Maternal Deprivation Hypothesis came from a study that Bowlby had carried out himself. This was published in 1946 and was called the forty-four juvenile thieves. Bowlby selected 44 young offenders and sampled them with 44 boys with no criminal record. He found that 32% of the thieves were affectionless psychopaths and none were found in the control group. Affectionless psychopaths act impulsively with little regard for the consequences of their actions. They show no shame or remorse and have little concern for others. Bowlby also found that out of the affectionless psychopaths, 88% of them had been separated from their caregiver for at least one week before they were five and 17% of those who weren't affectionless psychopaths, were found to be maternally deprived.
