In recent years, advertising targeted at children has become a debatable issue, especially advertisements that have focused negatively on children in different age groups. In 1750 it was a misdeed that was punished by death, to trade anything to a child without obtaining authorized legislation, but in 2001, advertising to children has become trade (Strasburger, 2001:1). Some people argue that advertising does not impact children negatively. However, many studies show negative impact of advertising on children, such as physical and emotional health problems. Therefore, this essay will discuss the freedom of advertising to children, and will argue that advertisements aimed at children should be regulated to protect children of different ages. Childhood health is a rising society health concern.
