Assignment 3B Animal research A) Harry Harlow carried out an experiment on infant 'rhesus' monkeys. He wanted to discover if an infant monkey would develop an attachment to a 'surrogate mother', and if they did, whether it was because food was being provided or physical contact with something soft was needed for the infant monkeys normal development. 'Harlow' took eight infant monkeys, and raised each one individually; they also had their own individual cages. He placed in each of the cages two models both made of a wire mesh. One of the structures was covered with terry towelling with a large round head and big eyes. The other structure was left as bare wire mesh with a rectangle shaped head.
