ACCORING TO PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH IN THE AREA, WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES AND IMPLICATION OF EXPANDING DAY CARE FACILITIES IN THE UK? Day care refers to situations where children are regularly looked after by temporary caregivers during the day. This means that they are separated from their main caregivers for regular periods. Unlike in a residential nursery or hospital care, children in day care do not stay overnight. There are two main forms of day care. The first is day nurseries. This is when a large number of children are cared for in a specially designed enviroment. Kagan et al (1980) studied 33 infants over a two year period at a day care centre in Boston, and 67 control infants cared for by their mothers in their homes.
