ACCORDING TO ABRAHAM MASLOW, MEETING A CHILD'S NEEDS ARE ESSENTIAL. DISCUSS IN RELATION TO JOHN BOLWBY'S THEORIES, COMPARING AND CONTRASTING THE RELEVANCE OF THESE IN TODAY'S SOCIETY. The study of attachments and their loss or disruption represents an important way of trying to understand how early experience can effect later development. Although it was central belief of Freud's psychoanalytic theory that experience during the first five years of life largely determines the kind of adults we become, its really only since the 1950's that developmental psychologists have systematically studied the nature and importance of the child's tie to its mother.
