However it can be defined as behaviour that is different from other people in some way. A criteria is used to by psychologists to determine those who show a typical behaviour and these include- -Behaviour, which is uncommon/infrequent -Behaviour, which is socially unacceptable -Evidence of distress -Maladaptive behaviour Categorising people is important as it can lead to misdiagnosis, which can have serious consequences.
