Models of Memory The multi-store model of memory Atkinson & Shiffrin argued that there are three memory stores. Information from the environment is initially received by the sensory stores, followed by the attention of the short-term store. In turn, some of the information processed in the short-term store is transferred to the long-term store. In the multi-store model the reason given for the transfer between short and long-term memory is that it is rehearsed or repeated verbally which aids encoding. The more something is rehearsed, the stronger the memory trace.
