Lindsay MacIntyre Politics Assessment The United Kingdom does not have a written constitution. It has a constitutional Monarchy. The Queen is the Head of the State. The Queen of Britain has many duties in which she has to perform. Firstly, the parliamentary year runs from the date when the Queen "summons" Parliament until the date it is "prorogued". Parliament actually decides these dates, the Monarchy simply having ceremonial function. It is when the Queen makes her speech containing the governments major policy proposals, marks the beginning of the parliamentary year. The Queen also represents Britain overseas this tends to be in her role as head of the commonwealth. She also is the head of the Church of England. Royal Assent is very important, as the Houses of Parliament must receive the Royal Assent before a legislative Bill can be passed. The Monarchy is funded in many ways.
