Senior Civil Servants are people who have climbed the ranks in the Civil Service and nearly always have had more than twenty years' experience in their jobs. They are full-time paid officials who in theory are politically neutral and forbidden from being members of any political party. They exist to offer advice to the government based on the benefit of their own experience. Senior Civil Servants have a permanent position working for every government that comes to power, regardless of the politics of the government in question. If a new government were to come to power with no prior experience of running a country and had no experienced advisors to guide them, it is more than likely that the country would fall rapidly into...
