How representative are MP's? An MP is someone who is elected by their constituents to represent them in Parliament. They are members of parliament, and have the opportunity of representing their constituents in parliament by the way of Prime Ministers questions etc. Their primary role is to represent their constituents in parliament who elected them. It has been argued that most of the MP's that are elected have the same characteristics those being male, white, and middle class. As this is the case there is a high chance that parliament is under- represented. This is a criticism of parliament as only a proportion of the public is represented. Also most MP's come from the same social and economic background, as most of them are middle class. MP's are drawn from a narrow segment of society regardless of which party is in power. This is a cause of under representation in Parliament....
