How effective is parliament in ensuring executive accountability? There are many ways in which parliament holds to executive to account and each have their pros and cons. One of the first and most obvious ways to ensure executive accountability is through "Select Committees". These are made from 11 MP's and are a group that is able to investigate any issue they see fit. They will usually investigate an issue that the media or public is interested so that there effectiveness is more apparent. They are able to send for person's papers and records in a certain department to resolve and expose issues in any department of government. These departments can be anything from the Department of Foreign Affairs to the Department of Science and Technology.
