Explain why the Conservative Party enjoyed success in the period 1886-1906 The Conservative Party were extremely successful during 1886-1906. During these 20 years, the Conservative Party held office for 17 of them, and won the general elections of 1886, 1895 and 1900. This period of prosperity can be contributed to several factors. Firstly, the Conservative Party were far better organised than the Liberal Party. This is clearly demonstrated by the fact that the Conservative Party had 30 paid agents in London in 1900 compared to the Liberals, who had 3. This was important because it meant that the Conservatives were in a far better position to spread their ideas and bring more attention to their policies. From this data it can be said that the Conservatives were ten times as organised as the Liberals. The Conservative Party enjoyed a strong leadership under Salisbury, who was Prime Minister from 1886-1892; 1895-1902....
