Analysis of Portillo Speech The Portillo speech which I am going to analyse has been written by the Conservative Party minister, Michael Portillo. The speech has been written to put the reputation of the Prime Minister, Tony Blair down and to persuade people to support this Party. The speech also advertises the Conservative Party well. It has been written in a formal, as the audience to this speech is the Conservative Party, The Labour Party and other ministers present in Parliament. The general public we're also the audience of this speech. Firstly I will look at the Lexis of the speech; this includes forms of address, emotive language and connotations. Only three types of pronouns have been used in this speech. The first one is 'We've'. "We've got to get Europe back to work" "We are going to go out of this hall" This use of pronoun makes it sound much more including, the audience...
