Who voted Nazis and why? In 1928 Germany was in a promising position. They had an effective democratic system, a strong leader in Gustav Stressman and a legendary president in Hindenburg. The economy had recovered remarkably well since the hyperinflation of 1923 and trade had been reinstated between fellow nations. Morale was generally high among all classes. The largest party at the time-the SPD was working well and keeping out the widely feared communists. The near future of Germany certainly looked fairly bright. The Nazis at this time were the smallest party in the Reichstag with only a pitiful 2.6% of the votes. Four years later it was a very different scenario. The Wall Street crash of 29' had brought a serious depression to the country.
