He was among a long line of rabbis from his father, Heinrich Marx, and his mother, Henrietta Marx, and therefore of Jewish descent (Karl Marx: The Person). Although his father Heinrich converted to the Anglican Church, it was strictly for financial reasons and he deemed it of no consequence (The History Guide).
