In this essay I will discuss George W. Bush Jnr's victory in the US Presidential elections in 2000. I will discuss how and why he won and, hopefully, explain what happened. The 2000 election certainly was a peculiar one. An election in which the campaigns of both candidates seemed neck and neck from beginning to end, Dubya, the one with the little known national reputation and inexperienced in national politics wins the presidency in a race which Al Gore, an able, experienced candidate should have breezed through and won by a landslide according to many political commentators. Also, early predictions were for the Democrats to win California and New York, the two most populous states, giving them a huge advantage in the Electoral College. So, how did Gore loose?
