Lucy Lynn-Evans Evaluate some of the problems concerning the extent and application of rights According to the 'Oxford Companion to Philosophy', rights are, 'in the strongest sense of the word, justified claims to the protection of persons' important interests. When the rights are effective, this protection is provided as something that is owed to persons for their own sakes. The upholding of rights is thus essential for human dignity.' Most people strongly think that all individuals are born with the same basic set of rights, for instance the right live.
