Divinity Coursework Question 1 Compare and contrast the Marxist and Christian attitudes to work and wealth. In some ways Marxism and Christian views are the same and complement each other, especially in the views of wealth and work. The Marxist views on wealth are really very simple. They believe in 'Socialism'. Marx felt that the peasants were being 'alienated' and 'exploited' by the land-owners or factory-owners. In some countries they were called serfs, i.e. they were literally owed by their masters rather like slaves. During the 18th century Britain went through the Industrial Revolution. Here most people were now employed in the secondary process of manufacturing goods from raw materials and less were employed in the primary stage which was the extraction of the raw materials needed to make the end product. Marx called this capitalism. This was when the upper and middle classes (bourgeoisie) exploited the poor lower class (proletariat) who...
