POLITICS OUTCOME 1 GREGOR LEISHMAN: 1X ANALYSING CONCEPTS OF THE STATE AND THE INDIVIDUAL The political theory, the Renaissance, which was partly thought to have transformed Medieval Europe into Modern Europe, has many thinkers linked to itself. One of the main thinkers behind the Renaissance was Niccolo Machiavelli. Machiavelli was born in Italy as a citizen of Florence in 1469. He entered public life in 1498 at the age of twenty five. After this in 1498, Machiavelli became secretary to the second Chancery. The Chancery was a body which by the constitution of Florence at the time had the general direction of the departments of war and the interior. This post he held until 1512. In 1512, Machiavelli was exiled from Florence due to the rise of the Medici family after France was defeated by Spain.
