Although liberalism has undergone considerable change since 17th Century, there are certain core ideas that remain. What are the ideas that form the basis of liberalism, and do they make sense? (1500 - 2500 words) Liberalism has undergone many changes since 17th century, however there are certain core ideas that still remain today, as the basis for this ideology. Liberalism was perceived as a new approach to politics in 17th century, consequently it was likely to be adapted and refined to correspond with a changing society. This essay intends to examine the ideas that were established when liberalism was first acknowledged and see how these have evolved to current ideas in liberalism, focussing on liberalist thinking from England and North America, as these are two of the main western countries that have embraced the ideology.
