The Woodland Trust T he woodland trust was founded in 1972 has grown to care and protect over 1000 sites covering 17,500 hectares (43,000 acres). This includes nationally and internationally important sites as well as small urban and village woods. (www.woodlandtrust.org) Trees and forests are crucial to life on our planet. They stabilise the soil, generate oxygen, store carbon, play host to a spectacular variety of wildlife, and provide us with raw materials and shelter. They also offer us peace and tranquillity. The aims and objectives of The Woodland trust, is to conserve, restore and re-establish the country's woodland and also:- * No further loss of ancient woodland. * Woodland biodiversity restored and improved. * An increase in the area of new native woodland.
