Daily Aimes Conflict in the Mendips The conservationists point of view there has been conflict in the Mendip Hills this week, the argument is over the extension of the old limestone quarry. Conservationists are very unhappy, and believe that the natural beauty would be spoilt by the extension of the quarry, which has already caused countryside to be destroyed. One conservationist, Jim Brodie said earlier today:- "The Mendips are of irreplacable value. Destroy them and we will deprive future generations simply because we are unable to live within our enviromental means. Many people oppose the conversationists, and feel that the extension would bring a lot of good to Mendip and the surrounding villages. One man said "it's a shame to spoil the countryside, but iunfortunatly in this day and age- the jobs come first.". In contrast, another woman told us- "Soon there will be nothing left,".
