Introduction to health and safety in leisure and sport In this unit we are looking at health and safety in leisure and sporting organisation I am going to explain how health and safety is dealt with in an organisation. I'm going to start off with the definitions of the main words in health and safety. Health is a state of personal well being free from illness injury or disease. Safety is the prevention of an accident or injury. Hazard is a potential object that can cause harm to yourself or others. Risk is the chance of something happening. Duty of care is to ensure all reasonable measures are carrid out to ensure people will be safe. The aim of health and safety is to protect the health, safety and welfare of employees and members of the public in workplaces within an organisation.
