He never let this bother him and after one year of being in the National Hockey League (NHL) he silenced the world. This was the birth of a legend. Wayne Douglas Gretzky was brought into this world by Walter and Phyllis Gretzky on January 26th, 1961 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Wayne was the first of five children. Walter, who was a former amateur hockey player himself, realized that his son Wayne had an undeniable talent. Wayne began skating at the age of two, on the Nith River near his grandparents' farm.
