Samantha Feeney 10F 26.10.03 In traditional fairy tales, ogres are man eating beasts. The prince usually rescues the princess; they marry and live happily ever after. How do the makers of "Shrek" use presentational devices to reverse this tradition, to reveal the ogre as good, and the prince as evil? In this essay I will attempt to elaborate on the use of presentational devices used in "Shrek" to reverse the tradition of prince charming and the perfect princesses in conventional fairy tales. Traditional fairy tales always have a brave prince and all live happily ever after. The use of presentational devices in e.g. Special effects, lighting, camera shots, and computer graphics all helped to reverse this tradition in the creation of "Shrek". The uses of camera shots in "shrek" are exceptional close ups of the characters facial expressions show that they are in love, for example the weed rat scene...
