Film Defined

In the context of the Media Studies AS or A Level, Film examines the film industry and the most prominent actors, directors and writers working within the industry.

Why Study Film?

How do you evaluate the films you've watched? Do you think about the narrative, the way the characters were formed, the way the screenplay was written, and how the film compares with the director's other films? These are some of the things you'll learn about by studying Film.

Film: What Will I Study?

You'll write essays comparing and contrasting elements of films. You'll produce case studies and coursework assessing how different people in society are represented in different film genres. And you'll produce assignments discussing how films conform to conventions of particular genres.

Further Study After Film

Your studies of Film in the Media Studies AS or A Level will help to prepare you for taking a university Degree in subjects including Media Studies, Advertising, Marketing and Drama. You could also go to film school to study different aspects of film-making.

"TERRIBLE NOT A PRESENTATION SCRIPT AT ALL! "

"A nice look at suspence and genres concerning important aspects of film. Well thought out and well organized."

"You have stated numerous ways in which Buffy is different from the normal horror genre, and have made some interesting points from these. The comment regarding Buffy's house being a safe place, I found very interesting, as it does go against the normal rules of the horror genre. You have included great examples throughout the essay, which back up some of your arguments. Your conclusion is also very good, as is sums up the main points of the essay, and questions whether Buffy is actually a horror, or is it something new? TSR User: boosh_slayer"
