... How does the Levis advertising campaign appeal to and manipulate its target audience? The mid-eighties brought a slump in the sales of original Levi jeans. Something had to be done to make them number one once again. After being a popular item for outdoors work, builders etc, the jeans became out of fashion with teenagers. In the 50s the jeans had largely dominated the market. The initial audience was now ageing and a brand new one needed to be found. For this to happen some exciting new advertisements needed to be broadcasted, and that is just what happened. Levi introduced a creative new idea, involving a man and a woman recreating the impression of 50s America. All the advertisements in this series revolved around this same idea of people finding the person wearing the jeans desirable.
