Mathematics Coursework The following Coursework investigates the statement that; 'Year 11 are better at estimating length than Year 7' Hypothesis I think the statement is true because I think Year 11 would have had more experience with estimation of length as they are older. To prove this, I will calculate averages and the standard deviation of each year groups estimations. If the statement is true, the mean and median of Year 11 should be closer to 1.55 than the mean and median of Year 7's estimates. Also, the standard deviation of Year 11's estimates should be smaller than that of Year 7. Method I was given the results of a survey of 165 pupils from Year 7 and 136 pupils from Year 11. I decided to take a random sample of 40 pupils from each year to make any calculations easier and to give me fairly accurate results. I used a calculator to generate random...
