Hypothesis 3- standard deviation- boys are better at science then girls Data - discrete and paired non-continuous data Sample- random I will be sampling 50 boys and 50 girls to give me 100 out of 200 this will give me a good idea of the average science results for boys and girls. Here is my sample: Girls Girl Science level Girl Science level 34 3 23 3 61 5 73 3 5 3 37 5 43 5 48 4 69 4 45 4 93 3 13 4 84 4 16 4 9 4 40 4 31 4 39 3 60 5 30 4 82 4 35 4 28 4 2 4 85 3 36 4 77 5 3 4 7 4 15 4 87 3 56 5 14 5 18 4 62 4 81 4 72 3 66 4 92 4 38 4 25 6 21 4 11 5 51 5 19 5 61 5 27 3 17 5 49 5 88 4 Boys Boy Science level Boy Science level 98 4 140 4 99 3 143 4 101 4 149 5 102 4 151 4 103 3 154 5 106 3 155 4 107 3 158 4 108 3 159 4 110 4 162 4 111 4 163 4 113 2 166 3 114 5 169 3 120 5 171 4 121 5 177 3 122 3 178 5 123 3 179 4 126 5 183 4 127 5 184 4 128 5 187 4 129 4 189 4 132 4 191 4 133 5 194 3 134 3 197 5 135 3 198 2 136 5 199 5 161 5 I will not be using number 184, as it is an out liar Ana out liar is a part of the data, which is not realistic and incorrect there for I will not use it. This is a down side to using secondary data. Here is my tally of results: Girls Level Frequency Total 3 10 4 26 5 13 6 1 Total 50 50 Boys Level Frequency Total 2 1 3 13 4 21 5 15 Total 50 50 I will now put these results into a frequency table Girls Level x Frequency f fx x² f (x²) 3 10 30 9 90 4 26 104 16 416 5 13 65 25 325 6 1 6 36 36 Total ?f = 50 ?fx = 205 ?x²=86 ?f(x²)=876 Boys Level x Frequency f fx x² f (x)² 2 1 1 4 4 3 13 39 9 117 4 21 84 16 336 5 15 65 25 375 Total ?f= 50 ?fx=189 ?x²=54 ?f(x²)=832 I will now use these formulae to work out the mean standard deviation and standard error: Mean: ?fx ?f Standard deviation: V ?f(x²) - (x)² ?f Standard error: standard deviation ...
