What our users think of the Decision Mathematics essays in this section:

"A little poor. The work starts out well with a good introduction to the topic area, but the rest of the work contains a number of jumps that aren't fully explained. Some evaluation of assumptions underlying the work would be a very useful addition to the work as it stands, and could help to show the limitations implicit in critical path analysis - it is important to understand that methods like this can only approximate real-life situations. "I can't really follow this piece of work properly - this may be because it's described as "a portion of the main project". What is included doesn't seem to flow well, especially as there is only a minimal amount of explanation in English - the majority of the work consists of diagrams and formulae/workings. The workings themselves do mostly make sense to me, and there is a clearly stated conclusion, but the absence of explanation throughout means I can only give this a low rating. TSR user: Illusionary"

"There is a very complete understanding of the three different numerical methods learnt in the course of A-Level Study (Newton-Raphson; Iteration through Rearrangement; Decimal Search). The limitations and failure conditions are mentioned. The real weakness with this essay is the total lack of any maths in it — all the equations were obviously written in later by hand and so didn't appear on this online copy. TSR User:DavyS"

"A fairly solid piece of work. The narrative makes reference to diagrams throughout, and while these aren't all included in the upload I assume that these were included in the work as submitted, so haven't rated it lower due to this. The introduction to the work is clear, and there is a useful evaluation of the method's accuracy as part of the conclusion. The conclusion would, however, benefit from being slightly more explicit in considering the assumptions involved - a bulleted list would have addressed this well. In the main body of the text the workings are well explained, but it would have been useful to give a better explanation of all terms involved (e.g. what are critical events?) as they are introduced. "This is a well-written piece of coursework. However, at times it *is* hard to follow. When the author discusses changing the period after which interest is calculated it is unclear what period the tables refer to. The level of confidence in mathematics is high as the algebra is correct and well-explained. It would've been nice to see some attempt at mathematical proof, as we are left with just using specific results as evidence for certain results as opposed to generalising. TSR User:DavyS"
