Number pyramids

... Number pyramids Plan I am trying to investigate a formula, so that I can calculate the base for small number pyramids, for example the base numbers of a pyramid 1, 2,3 etc. By the end of this I should be able to use that formula to calculate any amount of numbers used for the base of pyramids. Challenge The challenge is whether you can predict the finishing number for a pyramid, which has 17 numbers along the base and starts with 23. This challenge has to be carried out without guessing or drawing the actual number pyramids. What is a number pyramid? 8 3 5 1 2 3 A number pyramid is basically adding the two consecutive numbers at the bottom in order to get the second row of numbers. Then you would add those two numbers to get the top number. So therefore it is essentially adding continuously in order to get the numbers

User Reviews of this Essay

What our users think of this essay:

"An excellent piece of work. This is well laid out and clearly explained at every stage. Initial examples are given, then hypotheses are made (with explanation of the reasoning followed) and proved for each situation - exactly the steps that should followed! The work concludes by proposing a general formula to cover any scenario, and while a good way to end, this is the one part that could perhaps be improved - as it stands, the hypothesised formula is tested and shown to work, but is not actually proved. A sound mathematical proof of the formula would round off the work perfectly; overall, though, this is of a high standard. TSR user: Illusionary"
