(1) At the end of a day spent drinking lager and consuming barbiturates, Hartley, a homeless and schizophrenic tramp, hollows out a sleeping place for himself in a haystack. Finding it rather cold, he lights a fire in the hay to keep himself warm. The fire spreads very rapidly and Hartley only just manages to escape being severely burnt in the blaze. His way is blocked by Topov, the farmer, who on seeing the flames has come to investigate. Hartley, fearful for his own safety, knocks Topov down, breaking his hip. Topov dies in hospital while under an anaesthetic so that the hip may be reset. Consider what offences, if any, have been committed.
