Head office sends sales advisors updates using pagers. Pagers can only receive data and cannot send data, therefore this is simplex communication. Half-duplex A channel that can carry data in both directions but not at the same time. When sales advisors are working in pairs going door to door they use walkie talkies to communicate with each other, this is half duplex communication. Duplex This is when communication can take place in both directions at the same time. Within the company e-mail is used as a communication tool. This is duplex communication. Parallel This is when multiple bits of data are sent at once and each bit uses a separate wire. This is suitable for short distances. Because parallel transmission is used within very short distances it would be used within the company's computer system. E.g. buses. Serial Serial communication is when data is sent over
