Rochelle Angley DCP Paper #2 Accents, Dialects, and Stereotypes Accents, dialects, and stereotypes play a huge role in our communication today. These differences can be very unique, interesting, and informative, but unfortunately they can put boundaries on communication as well. These differences can be both positive and negative depending upon the individual(s) themselves and their backgrounds. Accents are unique to individuals. I believe they show a part of whom you are and you should try not to let this get in the way of any communication. I know there are times when an individual's accent is really strong therefore hard to understand, but it is how you respond, how you try to listen and learn to truly communicate. For example my best friend in high school was born in Hawaii. She did not have an accent, but her dad did. The first time I met him, I had no idea what he had talked about...
