... 'British advances in technology won the battle of the Atlantic' discuss. The battle of the Atlantic started in September 1939, this continued through the war and was happening whilst the other events in the war where gong on, including the "battle for Britain". In the battle of the Atlantic the Germans had realised that they could not compete with the British surface ships and introduced the U-Boats which where German submarines; these where used to attack the British main supply lines which ran through the Atlantic Ocean and where vital for the success of Britain. I will be looking at the evidence to come to a conclusion on whether I agree with the view that Britain won the battle of the Atlantic through advances in technology For the first section I will be looking at the British weakness and German strengths through September 1939 to June 1941; at the events in
