A Definition of Modern European History (1789-1945)

This part of AS Level and A Level History looks at the relationships between the major countries of Europe during a period in which World Wars I and II occurred. 1789 saw the beginning of the French Revolution, which broke the feudal system in France. Also between 1789 and 1945, dictatorships rose and were defeated.

Why Study Modern European History (1789-1945)?

The events that took place during this period led to the realisation that the world needed to progress in a more harmonised manner. The rise and eventual fall of political ideologies such as communism and socialism has a huge bearing on our world today. These developments simply cannot be ignored.

What Will I Study In Modern European History (1789-1945)?

This period was shaped by figures including Napoleon, Hitler, Mao and Stalin. As well as studying such leaders, you may also write essays and coursework on the French Monarchy, the onset of communism in Russia, and dictatorship in Italy in the 20th century. There will also be assignments on international relations.
