Joanne Vale Why did opposition to apartheid grow during the 1950's and 1960's in South Africa? Opposition grew during the 1950's and the 1960's due to the increasing harshness of the laws towards blacks; they were ever growing and changing to effect the blacks lives for the worst, blacks had started protesting against these laws; as they couldn't cope with the way their lives were being run and with the way the white society treated them, and different countries all over the world, including Europe, France and America, had started changing their opinion against the way white South Africans were treating black people. Although these are the main reasons for opposition growing, the combination of the ANC, the PAC and the governments made blacks stand up for what they had believed in for all of these years, and because they were standing up against the whites, this bought attention from other countries...
