... Vietnam coursework Why did America come to be involved in the Vietnam war Vietnam is a country on the eastern coast of Asia. Before World War 2 Vietnam was part of the French empire. During World War 2 most of France was occupied so the French had two withdraw to fight Nazi Germany. At this time the Japanese took control of Vietnam for the natural resources it possessed as Japan had little of its own natural resources. At this time there was an anti Japanese resistance group led by a man called Ho Chi Minh. Ho Chi Minh was a man from Vietnam who was very well travelled who had lived in many different countries like France but most importantly in the USSR where he developed his pro communist views. When Japan had been defeated at the end of World War 2 by the Allies Ho Chi Minh starts dreaming of controlling all
