Victoria Ulett January 2006 Classics Module PSY1050 "Evaluate the contribution Rosenhan's (1973) experiment has made to our understanding of whether sanity/insanity can be distinguished." Word count: 1,583 Sanity is deemed by many as normality and being of a healthy state of mind. Insanity, on the other hand, is seen to most people as being of poor mental health, a threat to society, and incapable of leading a normal life. Both of these are terms commonly used in psychology to describe the mental state/ status of a person and both can be easily yet vaguely defined. The fact that 'proper' definitions for the terms are so loose poses a strong question as to whether the two can be distinguished from one another, this later leads to problems and further questions as to how accurate such terms are in regards to one's mental health.
