The Quiet Room is an autobiographical story of one woman's journey through schizophrenia illness, treatment, and relapses. The book is written from the perspective of the afflicted, Lori Schiller, her family, friends, and therapist. It attempts to chronicle her journey from several vantage points and demonstrate the widespread effect of schizophrenia, and the trauma the illness causes. This book spans nearly twenty years in the life of a schizophrenic patient through trial procedures, medications and attempts at having a normal life. Lori Schiller was a female Caucasian raised in an upper middle class home. She lived a relatively normal life until her late teens, when the first symptoms of the illness that would later overtake her began to manifest.
