Ashley Louise Graham Advanced physiology Sight, sound and sensory stimuli The major structure of the eye Above is a labelled diagram of the eye it shows where all the main parts of the eye are situated. Each part of the eye has a different function: Lens- changes shape to accommodate light it is then directed to the retina Conjunctiva- a transparent membrane that covers the cornea Cornea- bends into the pupil Vitreous humour- oil like substance Iris- the coloured area of the eye that allows the right amount of light for the brain to handle, it has two types of muscles radical and circular the circular ones move. Fovea- where the rods and cones are situated but mainly the cones as they only function in good light. Visual function Light enters the eye and is refracted by the cornea through the pupil. This light passes through the lens. This completes refraction by fine tuning the focused light onto the retina. The...
