Research Methods and Perspectives A - Introduction I have been asked to create a report on an experiment of my choice. My report is going to be based on an experimental study that I will carry out myself. I will include a memory based exercise and a questionnaire. My aim is to investigate the effects of smoking on everyday memory. B - Background My chosen topic area is smoking on memory. I want to find out if the short term memory of an individual is affected after a cigarette. Cigarette smoking is the greatest single cause of illness and premature death in the UK. Smoking is an addictive habit with ultimately fatal consequences. Around 114,000 people in the UK die each year from actively smoking. Of these deaths, about 42,800 are from smoking-related cancers, 30,600 from cardiovascular disease and 29,100 die slowly from emphysema and other chronic lung diseases. You are more likely to die...
