Paint a verbal portrait of an ideal physician and tell us about experiences that you have had which have helped to shape this ideal. I have been fascinated with science ever since my 11th grade biology teacher introduced me to the topic "Anatomy and Physiology." That's when I committed myself completely to becoming a physician. However until the summer of 2002 I had not developed the characteristics that I would like to have in myself to become an ideal physician. During the summer of 2002, I participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) on Medicine in U.C. Berkeley, where I was able to learn and gain a better understanding of the job and characteristics of an ideal physician. In NYLF, I learned a broad range of topics, including educational requirements, career options, clinical practice and complex ethical and legal issues facing the medical profession today.
