Cancer - Leukaemia The general description of cancer is "a disease, often but not always treatable, that results from a breakdown in the usual control mechanisms that regulate cell division; certain cells divide uncontrollably and form tumours, from which cells may break away and form secondary tumours in other areas of the body (metastasis)." One type of cancer I am going to look at is Leukaemia. The four types of this disease are 1)acute lymphblastic leukaemia, (ALL) 2) acute myeloid leukaemia, (AML) 3) chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) 4) chronic myeloid leukaemia. (CML) Acute forms of Leukaemia are ones that have a rapid onset and progression, Chronic forms have a slow onset and progression and are therefore usually more treatable if caught very early on. Lymphoid forms are ones that affect lymphoid cells in the bone marrow. Normally these would become lymphocytes (which are mainly antibody producing cells but some have other roles in the immune...
