Industrial Sectors All businesses belong to a particular industrial sector. These sectors are divided into three groups, which are Primary, Secondary and Tertiary. Primary Sector- The primary sector involves the extracting of raw materials (natural resources). These raw materials are used for the manufacturing process. Examples of primary production are farming, mining for oil, coal and iron, agriculture, forestry, fishing and oil & gas drilling. Secondary Sector- The secondary sector includes manufacturing, processing and assembling the raw materials into the finished product e.g. turning fruit into juice, wood into tables etc. The sort of manufacturers that comply with this sector include house builders, a factory of any kind, a paper mill etc. Tertiary Sector- The tertiary sector is also known as the service sector. It involves a business providing a service rather than a manufactured item.
